Chia oil is a plant-based oil made from chia seeds. It predominantly contains the omega-3 fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) which is known for several health effects. ALA is highly concentrated in the brain and particularly important for cognitive and behavioural function and is key for the growth and development of children. In addition, ALA has cardio protective effects that are linked to modulating the inflammatory response. As a consequence, high blood pressure and the formation of blood clots is reduced, contributing to normal heart function.The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has acknowledged the following beneficial effects as a basis for health claims:
